My air conditioning was out on my 1995 Lexus SC 400 with 68, 000 miles on it. The service dept said they would have to do a presure test using a dye to see the leak was coming from. The finding was there was a line that needed to be replaced. Cost of the work $700. I agreed to have the work performed. One week later the air goes out again. I bring it back in and now I am being told its the seals in the compressor. I was told the compressor was OK, and the seals just needed to be replaced. At this time I asked was this the only thing that could go wrong, at which time, I was told Oh no, you can have multiple things go wrong with air conditioning. I agreed to pay the additional $315 for the seals. Once again a week later the air goes out again. Now I am being told the compressor needs to be replaced, another $1200. And if that don;t cure it there is a line behind the dashboard, that will cost between $1500 and $2000 to fix. MY POINT, if the service MGR, would have educated me (the first time around about air conditioning failure), I would have never put that kind of monies into a car that is worth $3500 which I was told by Elmhurst Toyota was its value. Now the MGR tells me he explained everything the first time around, and the car was in a front end collision, which it never has been. Consumer Beware.
